Gary Michael Sutherland, age 70, of Benton, KY, died Saturday, November 26, 2016, at the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House in Murray, KY. He was a member of the Vanzora Baptist Church, a Vietnam Army Veteran, a Kentucky Colonel, and a founding member and former fire chief at Harvey Brewers Fire Department.
He was the son of the late Hugh “Sprout” Sutherland and the late Shirley (Hicks) Sutherland. He was also preceded in death by one brother: Joe Sutherland; and one sister: Shelia Nelson.
He is survived by his wife: Cheryl (Park) Sutherland of Benton, KY; two daughters: Marla Poyner and Shana Housden both of Murray, KY; one sister: Sandy Streit of Benton, KY; and three grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by Collier Funeral Home, Benton, KY where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, November 28, 2016. Funeral service will be at Collier Funeral Chapel at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 29, 2016, with Rev. Randy McClure officiating. Interment will be at Lyles Cemetery, Benton, KY.
