Time: 2:30 p.m.
Date: Tuesday, October 04, 2016
Location: Interstate 24 between the 5 and 6 mile markers
Driver 1: Kimberly D. Geierman, 23, of Calvert City, driving a 2005 Ford F150 pickup truck east on Interstate 24
A single-vehicle crash and fire shut down Interstate 24 for a time Tuesday afternoon.
Officer Josh Bryant and other officers responded at 2:30 p.m. to a report of a roll-over accident on eastbound Interstate 24. As Bryant arrived, he found the vehicle involved, a 2005 Ford pickup truck, engulfed in flames.
Kimberly Geierman told Bryant she was heading to Calvert City and had “blacked out,” and that she had no recollection of the crash.
A witness, Peter Whisnant of Doniphan, MO, said he was driving behind Geierman’s truck and saw it swerve into the left lane, then back into the right lane and off the shoulder of the highway.
The truck ran up an embankment and overturned, coming to rest on its wheels.
The truck caught fire, and Whisnant ran to it and pulled Geierman out of the vehicle to safety.
Paducah Fire Department firefighters extinguished the blaze and assisted Mercy Ambulance personnel in treating Geierman’s injuries.
She complained of pain in her right arm and had a cut to her head, and was transported to Lourdes Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The interstate was shut down, or restricted to one lane of eastbound traffic, for more than an hour.
