Night Lane Restrictions Continue on I-24 at Purchase Pkwy Interchange THIS WEEK

A contractor for The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans to continue night traffic restrictions along Interstate 24 at the Exit 25 Purchase Parkway through Thursday night, October 6, 2016.

There will be no night lane restrictions on Saturday or Sunday night. However, they will resume on Monday night and are expected to continue through Thursday night, October 6.

The contractor will restrict traffic on I-24 to one lane in each direction from 8:00 p.m., CDT, to 6 a.m., each day. Both eastbound and westbound traffic will be moved to the right-hand or passing lane in this work zone to allow the contractor to construct median crossovers required to transition traffic to a diversion once the crossovers are completed. These night lane restrictions will run along I-24 from Exit 25 to near Exit 27.

Please note that prep work for the night lane restrictions will require workers to be present along the work zone starting a couple of hours before the restrictions are put up each night. Caution is required.

These night lane restrictions along I-24 will be taken down by 6:00 a.m., the following morning.

As a reminder, the I-24 Westbound Exit Ramp (Exit 25-B) to the Purchase Parkway Northbound remains closed in the interchange. Westbound I-24 traffic seeking to access Calvert City should detour via I-24 Exit 27 to US 62 westbound. A message board placed east of I-24 Exit 27 directs traffic to this detour.

As weather allows, the contractor will continue hauling material from the northeast quadrant of the existing cloverleaf to help construct portions of the new interchange. Flaggers will be stationed on ramps to assist with traffic control as industrial haul trucks move around the interchange. Motorists should be prepared to stop when required.

This work zone along I-24 in Marshall County between the 25 and 28 mile marker includes a 55 mile per hour speed limit with an enhanced enforcement presence and double fines for citations.

Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contractor on the $37.8 million interchange reconstruction project. The new I-24/I-69 Calvert City interchange has a target completion date of July 1, 2018.

All work schedules are subject to change due to weather, emergencies, and other factors.
