DRAFFENVILLE – It was a must-win game for the Marshals Thursday at Colburn Stadium against Calloway County to secure the #1 seed in the 2nd District Tournament but the Lakers had other plans, handing the Marshals their first shut-out of the season in a 3-0 win.

“We did it to ourselves”, Coach Andy Pagel said. “It was just a total meltdown tonight.” Pagel thought his team looked good early but following Calloway’s first goal at 19:27 by Brian Wilhelm, the Marshals began to implode a bit.

Calloway scored again at 10:59 in the first half by Ty Stom and assist to Jacob Smith on the throw-in to lead 2-0 at halftime and in the 55th minute of the game, Wilhelm scored his second goal of the game to put the Lakers up 3-0.

The Marshals will play their final district game Saturday at Murray and a win over the Tigers would put the Marshals, Calloway and Graves all tied at the top of the 2nd District with 6-2 records. The three teams have split their district games but the #1 seed would go to the Eagles on the goal differential tie-breaker which  would mean the Marshals and Lakers will meet again in the first game of the district tournament.

Following the game against Murray on Saturday, Marshall County (12-4-1) will wrap up the regular season at home on Tuesday against Henderson County (10-4-4).
