BENTON, KY (September 15, 2016) — Registration for the 2016-2017 Little League Basketball season opens Monday for all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade boys and girls attending school in Marshall County.
All registrations must be completed online at www.marshallcountylittleleague.com by Friday, Oct. 14.
“Our mission at the Marshall County Little League Basketball Association is to help students develop basic skills and instill a love of the sport while learning the fundamentals of team play in a fun and appropriately challenging environment,” said Dave Washburn, Marshall County Little League Basketball president.
“Every player also receives an MC Little League Basketball T-shirt.”
The participation fee is $60 per player. Families with two or more siblings playing will pay a discounted fee of $100 to cover all players living in the same household.
“Our goal is to serve more than 250 students this year, but we need everyone’s help in getting the word out, especially among girls,” Washburn said.
“I encourage everyone to sign up with a friend who has not played Little League Basketball before and help us make the 2016-2017 season the best ever.”
To ensure team equality, all 3rd grade players must attend a skills evaluation Tuesday, October 25 from 6 to 7 p.m.
Girls evaluations will be held in the Central Elementary gym and boys evaluations will be held in the Marshall County High School auxiliary gym.
Practices begin the week of October 31 with games starting the week of November 28 and running through January 27.
After each game, coaches will vote for players on the opposing team for selection to an MC Little League All-Star team.
Two All-Star teams will be selected (based on votes received throughout the season) in each grade and will play in an All-Star Showcase at the end of the season.
“Our inaugural All-Star Showcase last season was an outstanding success,” Washburn said.
“We packed the North Marshall Middle School and Benton Middle School gyms and the players got to experience what competing at the next level can be like. We had outstanding support from the community, elementary school cheerleaders and middle school coaches, who volunteered to coach the 5th-grade all-stars. We hope to build on that success this season.”
