Driver 1: Justin J. Gray, 33, a Paducah firefighter driving a 2011 fire engine north on James Sanders Boulevard
Driver 2: Billy D. York, 83, of Benton, KY, driving a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis west on Hinkleville Road
Two Benton residents were injured when their car collided with a Paducah fire truck enroute to a medical emergency at a store near Kentucky Oaks Mall.
The fire truck was northbound on James Sanders Boulevard with its emergency equipment activated and stopped for the red light at Hinkleville Road. Driver Justin J. Gray said he thought all east-west traffic had stopped so he proceeded into the intersection.
Billy D. York told officers he was westbound and had a green light, and didn’t see the fire truck until the collision in the intersection. York and his passenger, Flora M. York, 80, of Benton, were taken by ambulance to Lourdes Hospital for treatment. None of the firefighters on the truck were reported injured.
