LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES, KY/TN – September 7, 2016Land Between the Lakes will conduct a field tour to the areas affected by the July storms within the Birmingham Ferry Salvage Project Area.

People interested in viewing the damage caused by the storm event at Land Between the Lakes can meet up on Friday, September 16, at 9am. The field tour will start at the Birmingham Ferry Backcountry Area parking lot.

John Westbrook, the Environmental Stewardship Department Manager at Land Between the Lakes, will lead the tour through the areas included in the proposed acreage of the salvage project. “After we sent out our notice about the proposed salvage project,” Westbrook explained, “we received quite a bit of interest in the project, and a few folks asked if we could walk them through the damaged areas. We decided if a couple people were interested, there probably are more.”

According to Westbrook, staff will be available to answer questions and hear concerns about the project. Some of the topics that will be discussed include impact to the core areas and size of proposed treatments.

The scoping letter and map for the proposed project can be found at https://www.landbetweenthelakes.us/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/BirminghamFerryScopingLtr.pdf.
