The Kentucky Drag Boat Association returns to Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area to host drag boat races this summer. Races take place in Pisgah Bay on Kentucky Lake beginning this Saturday and Sunday, and continuing July 2-3, and August 6-7.
The drag boat races feature blown-alcohol boats, modified jet skis, hydros and jet-powered boats, and flat-bottom racers skimming the water at speeds exceeding 150 mph. Races run from 10am to 5pm, depending on weather and number of participants. Organizers hold time trials on Saturday and final races on Sunday.
Spectators may park and watch the races at Birmingham Ferry Backcountry Area. The Kentucky Drag Boat Association collects a spectator fee of $5 per person; children under 12 are free.
