A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans a temporary ramp closure at the Interstate 24/Julian Carroll-Purchase Parkway Interchange at Calvert City on Monday, April 11, 2016.
This is a continuation of work that started on Friday and is part of upgrades to allow Interstate 69 to be extended south along the Purchase Parkway.
The contractor plans to again temporarily close the eastbound Interstate 24 exit ramp to the southbound lanes of the Purchase Parkway starting at approximately 10:00 a.m., CDT, on Monday. This ramp closure is expected to be in place for approximately 3 hours.
Motorists and truckers should be aware that the eastbound exit ramp from I-24 to the southbound lanes of the Purchase Parkway now has a 19 ft maximum load width that is expected to remain in place until at least July 31, 2016.
As a reminder, there is a lane restriction along the southbound lanes of the parkway through the interchange. This is part of an extended work zone at the existing Interstate 24 Exit 25 and Purchase Parkway Exit 52 interchange. This work zone includes a 55 mile per hour speed limit with an enhanced enforcement presence and double fines.
Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contractor on the $37.8 million interchange reconstruction project. The new I-24/I-69 Calvert City interchange has a target completion date of July 1, 2018.
The Transportation Cabinet will issue additional traffic advisories as work progresses to a point where it impacts traffic flow. All main line traffic connections through the interchange will be maintained during the construction process.
