Ruby Nell Sledd Davis, age 89, of Sharpe, KY died April 2, 2016, at Calvert City Convalescent Center. She was born on December 2, 1926 to Cazy Herlie Sledd and Nannie Marie (King) Sledd in Elva, Marshall County, KY. She attended Marshall County Schools.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Chief Petty Officer Robert F. Davis, brothers Uhl, Hudson, Horace and C.H. and sisters: Mary Kathrine, Cora and Francis. Surviving sister Rose Crotser resides in Reidland.
On August 18, 1947, she married Chief Petty Officer Robert Fowler Davis in Livingston County. Their son Charles Hurley Davis and wife Ginny live in Merritt Island, Florida. Their daughter Brenda Marie Davis resides in Sharpe. Step-grandson Master Sgt. Mike Mitchell (Air Force Reserves) lives in Alvin, Texas with wife Rebekah and sons Dylan and Garrett and daughter Alexis.
During their marriage of 66 years they traveled extensively throughout the United States attending Navy reunions. It truly was the joy of their lives to reminisce with the military men and women who fought for our country They were exemplary members of the “Greatest Generation.”
Ruby was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and an active member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Fleet Reserve and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. preceding the 2:00 p.m. services which will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home located at 211 West 5th St., Benton, KY.
