McCracken County Sheriff’s Department warns of Facebook scam

scamOn March 22 2016 at approximately 6:30, I was approached at the courthouse by a male victim with some concerning questions about a possible scam.  The victim stated that he was contacted on facebook from a female who stated she was stuck in Nigeria, her father was a US Marine and died in Nigeria and she was there collecting his property.  The female stated she was from Tulsa, OK.

The suspected scammer is pictured below and obviously false information/ID.  The victim sent 5 or 6 different money grams for the total amount of $2200.  The suspect continued contacting him on facebook to attempt to retrieve more money.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public NOT to engage in conversation with anyone asking for money over the internet.  Scammers are hitting the social media very hard and claiming several victims for large amounts of money before they realize it’s a scam.
