Cole Nelson finishes stellar basketball career at Bethel University

McKENZIE, Tenn. – Former Marshall County basketball player, Cole Nelson, recently finished his collegiate basketball career at Bethel University leaving the Wildcat program 8th in career assists (559 as of February 20th) finishing the 2015-2016 season with 147 and 7th in career steals over the four years, finishing this season with 43.

Cole led the team in both assists and steals and scored his 1,000th college career point at Bethel on March 2nd, the 29th player to attain the milestone as a Wildcat.  This season he was 94/122 at the free throw line for 77%.

Cole finished the season ranked 12th in the nation in assists with 147 in NAIA Division I basketball and his 4.9 per game average placed him 15th in the nation.

Bethel ranked 2nd in the nation in total rebound offence with 1,338 which is 44.6 per game, 4th in the nation in total steals with 299 for the season and 5th in average steals per game with 9.97.

Bethel Head Coach Jeff Britt said, “Cole has been a special player for us and we will miss him.”

Bethel finished the season 18-12 and in the four years that Cole has played, their record is 85-41. His freshman season, the Wildcats finished 24-7 and advanced to the quarter-finals of the TransSouth Conference Tournament. The Wildcats also reached the quarter-finals in his sophomore season and last year advanced to the first round of the NAIA Championship Tournament.
