Marshals drop final regular season game to #1 ranked Christian County

DRAFFENVILLE – Marshall County wrapped up their regular season Thursday night against #1 ranked Christian County, holding the Colonels to their second lowest point total of the season in the 55-43 win over the Marshals.

The 23-2 Colonels have not lost to a Kentucky team this season with their only two losses coming in late December to Centralia, IL and Arlington, TN in the Centralia Christmas Tournament.

Christian County jumped out to an early 11-2 lead behind six points from sophomore forward Detorrion Ware and five by Tyrik Edwards with the only Marshall points coming on a basket by Dylan Walters. Three points by Aaron Reed and a basket by Walters closed out the first quarter trailing 16-7.

Three points from the free throw line from Reed and two by Matthew French combined with a basket by Walters cut the Christian County lead to 18-14 but the Colonels finished out the second quarter with a 9-2 run and a 27-16 halftime lead.

Down by 13 early in the second half, a three from D.J. Pigg near the halfway point of the third quarter cut Christian County’s lead to 33-26 but the scoring combination of Ware and Edwards closed the third quarter out on a 43-28 Colonel lead.

The Marshals out-scored the Colonels in the fourth quarter by three points, trailing by as much as 19 points at 51-32 but going on to out-score Christian County 11-4 to finish out the game.

The Marshals finished the regular season 15-14 and will head into the 4th District Tournament next week at Calloway County to face the Lakers on Tuesday at 7:45. The winner of that game will play Murray in the championship game on Thursday.
