Area police department’s have been receiving several reports regarding citizens getting phone calls from people claiming to be with the IRS.
The callers claim to work for the IRS and demands a bill be paid. This type of call is a scam.
The IRS will not call you to demand immediate payment or call you if you owe taxes without first sending you a bill in the mail.
Also, the IRS, will not demand that you pay taxes and not allow you to question or appeal the amount you owe or require that you pay your taxes a certain way.
If you received one of these calls, do not give out any information. Hang up immediately. Use the “IRS Impersonation Scam Reporting” web page or call 800-366-4484.
Additionally, Kentuckians might have to wait a bit longer for their state income tax refunds this year.
The Kentucky Department of Revenue said Tuesday it might take longer to process refunds due to enhanced security features and fraud analysis tools.
The agency says refunds might take up to 21 days longer for electronic filers if their return is error free.
Revenue Department Commissioner Dan Bork says new fraud detection processes will protect taxpayers and the state. He says electronic filing is the fastest way to get refunds.
In late January, the department began accepting electronically filed tax returns and anticipates that most taxpayers will continue to file electronically.
Electronic filing for individuals topped 85 percent last year.
Refund requests from taxpayers who file paper forms could take six to eight weeks.
