BENTON – South Marshall Middle, Junior High and High School basketball and cheerleader alumni were recognized at halftime of the Marshals game against Crittenden County that was held at the middle school gymnasium as a tribute to the many games and memories made there as the school enters into a new consolidated middle school with Benton Middle this fall.

Dylan Walters, D.J. Pigg and Aaron Reed gave the Marshals an early 6-0 lead that was cut to three following a 3-pointer by Dylan Hollis and that would be as close as Rockets would get the rest of the game.
The Marshals stretched their lead out to 21-11 at the end of the first quarter and held the Rockets to just four-second quarter points to lead 36-15 at halftime.
Coach Gus Gilliespie got the entire bench into the game in the second half that opened on a basket by Crittenden County followed by two straight three’s by Pigg to help lead the Marshals to a 49-26 score at the end of the third quarter.
The Marshals out-scored the Rockets 18-7 in the final frame on their way to a 67-33 victory, led by Walters with 18 points and Pigg with 14. Hollis led the 1-16 Rockets with 18 points.
Some of the notable South alumni introduced during halftime of the boy’s game included Voice of the Lady Marshals Jeremy Rose from South Marshall Middle. Superintendent Trent Lovett, Board of Education member Rocky Hudson and Principal Amy Waggoner from South Marshall Junior High. From South Marshall High School, County Commissioner Bob Gold and Board of Education member Mike Wyatt.
