The Marshall County After-School 4-H Clubs and Teen Club focused on giving back to their community during their December Club meetings. The After-School 4-H Clubs’ civic engagement projects included making Holiday cards and collecting fleece blankets for distribution throughout Marshall County. The 4-H Teen Club adopted a 1st grader to purchase clothing and fun items to help the young lady’s family provide a few more things from Santa.
The After-School Club 4-Hers were given an assortment of supplies to create festive Holiday cards for nursing home residents and hospital patients. 4-H members from all six Marshall County elementary schools and the three middle schools made 228 cards. The cards were delivered to Calvert City Convalescent Center, Lakeway Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, and the Marshall County Hospital for distrubtion this Holiday Season.
The Middle School 4-H Clubs also collected fleece blankets and toys to be donated to the Bags of Love organization. They donated 28 fleece blankets, several toy cars and dolls. They are planning more civic engagement projects for the club year.
The elementary and middle school 4-Hers also enjoyed a Holiday Celebration in which they brought snacks to share with each other. While enjoying the snacks they played a Christmas Jeopardy game testing their knowledge on Movies, Songs, Traditions, and more.
Each 4-H After-School Club has teen leaders who volunteer their time to assist with the monthly club meetings. Teens who assisted with the December meetings include: Alisha Boone, Miles Martin, Ashlynn Kegel, Kaitlyn Oglesby Isaac Miller, Nathan Tapscott, and Savannah McKee. Carol Thompson, 4-H Program Assistant, serves as the 4-H leader for the After-School Clubs.
