Mr. Jerome Lee “Hoppy” Hicks, age 72 of Hardin, KY, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
Born Saturday, September 10, 1942 in Hardin, KY, A communication technician by trade, he retired after 24 years of service with Bellsouth. He also served as First District Commissioner in Marshall County for 17 years. He was past president of the South Marshall PTO, South Marshall Band Boosters, South Marshall Athletic Club and the South Marshall County Girls Softball League. He also served on the Executive Board of Communication Workers of America, served as secretary of the Hardin Conservation Club and served on the Board of Directors of the West KY Field Trial Club.
Surviving are his wife, Darla (Dobkins) Hicks of Hardin, KY, two sons, Jerome “Lee” Hicks, Jr., wife Karen of Hardin, KY, and James Daniel “Dan” Hicks, wife Jody of Hardin, KY, one daughter, Teresa Lyn Starks, husband Danny of Benton, KY, two step-daughters, Adrienne Riggs, husband Casey of Benton, KY, Morgan Bennett, fiancee’ Adam Lovett of Hardin, KY, two sisters, Jean Cain of Paducah, KY, Joan Smith of Sharpe, KY, grandchildren: Aaron Jacob Hicks, Dakota Grey Hicks, Shelby Lyn Starks, James Cody Hicks, Jessica Mae Hicks, Lily Riggs, Raylan Riggs and Owen Riggs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the late James Kino and Ora Lee (Bradberry) Hicks, by three brothers, Joseph Daniel Hicks, John Vernon Hicks and James Clifton Hicks, three sisters, Sarah Ruth Padgett, Mary Naomi McDaniel and an infant girl.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home, Benton, KY. Rev. K. Alan Miller and Rev. Brent Clark will officiate. Interment will follow the service in the Wadesboro Cemetery, Hardin, KY. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th, Benton, KY.
