Racer basketball schedule released

The 2015-16 Murray State basketball schedule was released this past week. Matt McMahon’s inaugural season features 15 games at the CFSB Center and several road games within driving distance for Racer fans.

The Racers will open the season against Harris-Stowe on November 13th. After one more home game against Middle Tennessee, the Racers will travel south to take on the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens. Matt McMahon’s squad will continue on to the Gulf Coast Classic in Estero, Florida following the Georgia game. Murray State will play Milwaukee in the opening game of the classic on November 23rd in the first of a three-game slate.

Other nonconference games include SIU Carbondale, Evansville, Wright State, and Illinois State. The Racers begin the quest for their 25th OVC title on January 2nd against Morehead State.

The OVC Tournament will once again take place at Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium and will take place March 2-5.

Wildcats host top 2016 recruit

Kobi Simmons, a 6-foot-5 combo guard, took his first official visit to Kentucky this past weekend. Simmons, currently ranked as the No. 18 overall player in the class of 2016, is considering Kentucky, Ohio State, UNLV, and Georgia.

Simmons has long been thought to favor Kentucky. His father grew up in Cincinnati and is a Kentucky fan. Simmons plans to announce his college decision in September after finishing his official visits.

If Simmons picks Kentucky, he’ll join Sacha Killeya-Jones in the Wildcats’ 2016 recruiting class. Killeya-Jones, a 6-foot-10 power forward, became Calipari’s first 2016 commitment on August 19th. The Wildcats have had a top-two recruiting class in every year of John Calipari’s tenure at Kentucky.
