Mr. Yoris “Dutch” Zweedyk, 90 of Hardin, KY, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015, at 12:15 p.m. at his home. He was a retired letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 39 years in Kokomo, IN. Dutch honorably served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army.
Born Monday, August 25, 1924 in Kalamazoo, MI, he was the son of the late John Zweedyk and the late Jenny (Kloosterman) Zweedyk.
Dutch was a proud supporter of Murray-Calloway Co. Hospice House, having donated countless hours building birdhouses to sell and donating all proceeds to the Hospice House Fund (Anna Mae Owen). He also supported the Marshall Co. Exceptional Center and Marcella’s Kitchen and food pantry. He was a big supporter of his church “Unity Cumberland Presbyterian Church” providing funds to build a playground for the kids. Many people knew him, especially the waitresses in the local restaurants.
Surviving are his wife, Kay (Thomas) Zweedyk of Hardin, KY whom he married in September 2003; daughter, Susan Zweedyk of Benton, KY; and his granddog Max.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife whom he married on May 25, 1951, Helen Virginia (Galloway) Zweedyk; son, Steven Zweedyk, four brothers, Mike, Gabriel, William “Bill” and Neil Zweedyk, two sisters, Nell Van Eck and Martha Levering.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home in Benton, KY. Rev. Brian Hayes will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Unity Cemetery, Hardin, KY. Visitation will be held between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th St., Benton, KY 42025.
