Don E. Kenady, 75, of Calvert City, KY passed away at 1:30AM Friday, May 22, 2015 at his home.
Don received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Kentucky, and an honorary doctorate from Northwestern University. He also received his Rank I teacher’s certification. Don had been the Superintendent of Corrections Education for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and was a Kentucky Colonel. Later in life, Don was a building contractor for many years. He was the founder and owner of Gold-n-Gun Pawnshop in Draffenville where he worked alongside his son and son-in-law.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Ladd Kenady of Calvert City, KY; his son, John Kenady and his wife Amy of Gilbertsville, KY; three daughters, DeAnna Harris and her husband Sean of Calvert City, KY, Teresa Dorroh and Lisa Carol Brown both of Princeton, KY; two sisters, Doris Ann Goode of Hopkinsville, KY and Judy Dulin of Crofton, KY; three brothers, Roy Kenady, Larry Kenady and Jack Kenady all of Hopkinsville, KY; fourteen grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, David Lewis Kenady; one brother, John Kenady; and a great grandchild. His parents were William Frank Kenady and Edith Montez (Atwood) Kenady.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Millwood Cemetery in Cobb, Kentucky. Rev. Brett Miles will officiate and burial will follow in the Millwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 5:00PM on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home.
