BENTON – The GEAR UP Kentucky Summer Academy is a three week summer enrichment program on a university campus sponsored by the GEAR UP Kentucky 3.0 program. Students have a daily schedule of classes taught by college professors and experience life as a college student by staying in a campus dorm and interacting with college staff and students.
This year students will be at one of these locations – University of Louisville, University of Kentucky, and Western Kentucky University. The Academy was created to help students develop the skills needed for college & career success and create the opportunity to visualize themselves as a future college student.
The Academy is provided at no cost for GUK students/families and includes the following three components:
General Studies Core Courses: Courses focused on building research, reading, writing, & communication skills.
Focus Areas : Courses that give students an in – depth, hands – on experience in a particular field including agriculture, engineering, science, fine arts, global studies, business & economics, etc.
Café College: Interactive evening sessions in t he residence hall that focus on the everyday life of the college student. Parents are invited to campus for a showcase presentation of student work on the final day. For more information about this program visit http://summeracademy.gearupky.org.
