Students headed for in-state colleges need to file FAFSA application as soon as possible

fafsaKentucky students planning to attend an in-state college or university this fall should file the 2015-2016 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. Filing early increases a student’s chance of receiving a state need-based grant administered by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA). The FAFSA is available at www.fafsa.gov.

Nearly half of Marshall County incoming students not ready for kindergarten

kindergartenBENTON, KY – According to a recent report by the Kentucky Center for Education and Workforce Statistics, only 55.6% of students entering the Marshall County school system tested ready for Kindergarten in the fall of 2013. The standard, as outlined by the Governor’s Task Force on Early Childhood Development and Education, includes five developmental areas: approaches to learning; health and physical well-being; language and communication development; social and emotional development; and cognitive and general knowledge.
