Racers fall in OVC title game heartbreaker

tjsappNASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Murray State Racers fell just short of a 16th Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship Saturday when the Belmont Bruins nipped MSU 88-87 at the finish line with a 3-point basket with 3.2 seconds remaining.
The victory at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee denied the Racers of the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Amazing Escape Pushes Racers To OVC Title Game

msuNASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Murray State Racers advanced to the finals of the Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball championship Friday with an 80-77 win over the Morehead State Eagles at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Racers (27-4) have a date in the OVC title game Saturday at 6 p.m. Central Time on ESPN2. Belmont and Eastern Kentucky are meeting in the second semifinal Friday night to decide the Racers' opponent.

Murray State's Payne and Prohm Named To Naismith Trophy List

payne-prohmMURRAY - Murray State's Steve Prohm and Cameron Payne were named to the Naismith Trophy semifinalist list for National Coach of the Year and National Player of the Year.
Payne, was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year this week as the Racers go into Friday's semifinals of the league tournament as the top seed.

Payne, a sophomore from Memphis, is 13th nationally with 20.2 points per game and he ranks high among the national leaders in every other offensive category. He started the week ranked fourth in the rankings for national player efficiency.

Racers' Ninth Straight Win Is OVC Opener

msu-moreheadMOREHEAD, KY - The Ohio Valley Conference season began with a road win Saturday for the Murray State Racers with a 66-57 victory over the Morehead State Eagles at Johnson Arena in Morehead, Ky.
The Racers (11-4, 1-0 OVC) have won seven-straight OVC openers and moved their current win streak to nine in a row. The Eagles fell to 4-10 and 0-1 in the OVC.

Murray State University unveils updated athletic logo

msulogosMURRAY - Murray State University unveiled an updated athletic identity and branding initiatives, highlighted by a primary logo that will be very familiar to Racer fans, but noticeably fine-tuned and user-friendly across a wide variety of platforms and applications. In addition, the university is introducing a number of secondary marks and a unique typography that will allow the athletic brand to grow and capitalize on the popularity of the Racers."I'm very excited about the new marks and the enhancement to the primary mark," said Allen Ward, director of athletics. "There's been a need for a long time to develop additional secondary marks and a consistent typography. During a time where revenue generation and budget efficiencies are imperative for the university and department, this initiative allows us to address both aggressively."

msugolfGEORGETOWN - Murray State men's golf had good showing by current and past players this week at the Clark's Pump-N-Shop Marathon Kentucky State Amateur Championship.
The 103rd staging of the Commonwealth's top men's championship was played at Cherry Blossom Golf & Country Club in Georgetown, Ky., June 17-19.
