Top player Wiggins did not disappoint the Hoopfest capacity crowd

Huntington Prep's Andrew Wiggins had 54 points in his two Hoopfest games and hit 17 of 20 attempts from the free throw line.DRAFFENVILLE - After watching our own Lady Marshals and Marshals play the first two games of Friday's opening session of the 2012 Hoopfest, basketball fans settled into their seats in the filled-to-capacity Reed Conder Gymnasium with their barbecue nachos and Happy Cow ice cream ready to watch the number one high school team in the nation.

Marshals go 2-0 in 2012 Marshall County Hoopfest

This dunk attempt by Austin Rentfrow was unsuccessful but he went on to earn MVP honors in the Marshals win over Massac County.DRAFFENVILLE - Massac County High School in Metropolis, Illinois, is where the Hoopfest began 17 years ago and is celebrating it's 12th year at Marshall County High School. Massac County boy's and girl's teams have been a Hoopfest staple and played in the first two games of the 2012 Hoopfest against the Lady Marshals and Marshals.

Lady Marshals split games in 17th Annual Hoopfest

Senior Taylor Meadows handles the ball in the Lady Marshals one point win over Massac County in Friday's Marshall County Hoopfest.DRAFFENVILLE - In the opening game of the 17th Annual Marshall County Hoopfest Friday, the Lady Marshals played the Massac County Lady Patriots pulling out a one point 49-48 win on a final free throw by Alyssa Barnard with three tenths of a second left on the clock that gave the Lady Marshals the win.

Fort Bend Travis will be a Hoopfest favorite among Cats fans

altDRAFFENVILLE - Coach Craig Brownson and his Fort Bend Travis High School Tigers will be making their first appearance in the Marshall County Hoopfest playing two games, Friday in the 10:00 p.m. game against Louisville Ballard and Saturday at 6:00 against Madison Central.

Fouls dominate Marshals win over Ballard Memorial

Mason Wooten scored 10 points for the Marshals in their 65-47 win over Ballard Memorial.DRAFFENVILLE - A final statistic in the Marshall County boy's basketball game against Ballard Memorial Tuesday night was 56, and it wasn't a final point total but the number of fouls committed between the two teams, as the Marshals begin to defend their First Region title. The majority of those fouls were committed in the first half as neither team was able to settle into any kind of rhythm which attributed to the multiple trips to the foul line for both teams, each in the double bonus with a minute still remaining in the first quarter.

Lady Marshals start season with a win over Lady Bombers

Senior Taylor Meadows led the Lady Marshals against Ballard Memorial with 13 points Tuesday at Marshall County High School.DRAFFENVILLE - It wasn't the prettiest win for the Lady Marshals over Ballard Memorial, but it was a win in their first game of the 2012-2013 basketball season.
Before either team took the court for the opening tip, Ballard was handed a technical foul due to an error in their books at the scoring table. After Taylor Meadows made one of the two technical free throws, Ballard went on to take an early 9-5 lead amid turnovers and five Lady Bombers steals.
