hoopfestDRAFFENVILLE - Just a little over two months away, the Marshall County Hoopfest  has shaped up to possibly be the best ever in the Hoopfest's 12th year at Marshall County High School's Reed Conder Gymnasium taking place this year December 5-7.

Twenty-six teams, the most ever at a Hoopfest event, will converge on Marshall County for three days and 18 games of the best high school basketball has to offer in the nation.
Three of the top five players in the nation according to the Class of 2014 Rivals.com rankings will be playing in the 2013 Hoopfest along with two top 10 players in the Class of 2015.
Marshall County has partnered with McCracken County High School to put on another Hoopfest event January 10-11 which will give fans a double-dose of elite high school basketball teams and players.
Teams appearing in both the Marshall and McCracken Hoopfest events are Chicago Currie, Dallas Prime Prep, Huntington Prep, WV, Evangelical Christian, TN and Marshall County Marshals and Lady Marshals. Marshall County teams will play in Session 3 on Saturday at the McCracken County Festival of Hoops.
"We feel that having two national events in Western Kentucky will highlight the region an additional time each year and showcase our area as a whole", Special Events Coordinator Dan Hudson said. "Hotels and restaurants from all over West Kentucky will feel the impact."
Hudson cited the National Quilt Show and Barbeque on the River as examples of events in our area receiving national recognition and the Hoopfest events just add to the recognition on a national level.
"We want to express thanks to all of our sponsors that have the same attitude towards tourism in Western Kentucky", Hudson said.
Hudson assures area fans that with the brand of basketball in Kentucky being at an all-time high, the interest that these two events is generating has been incredible.
"Kentucky, University of Louisville and Murray State fans, due to their great fan bases, will ensure that both events are successful", Hudson said. "Both school systems should be commended for their example of working together to bring a national event to our area."
Randy Newcomb, Executive Director of Marshall County Tourism feels the Marshall County Hoopfest and McCracken County Hoopfest is just a win-win situation for our area.
"Any recognition, expecially on a national scale, is a great thing for our area", Newcomb said. "The Hoopfest comes along during the off-season, especially for tourism, so it's a big boost economically to our local hotels and restaurants."
The Marshall County Hoopfest is especially a benefit to the local economy but according to Newcomb, events in Paducah such as the Quilt Show and now the McCracken Hoopfest spills over into our county and is a great thing for the whole Western Kentucky area.
