GRAVES COUNTY - The North Marshall Middle School Boy’s Basketball team battled their way to an impressive win over Ballard County in the first round of regional play last night in Graves County.
North started out strong, taking a commanding lead in the first quarter of the game, on top 15 -4 when Ballard sunk a three-pointer at the buzzer taking it to 15-7 at the beginning of the second.

North led 23-9 in the first two minutes, increasing their lead to 34-18 at the half. Ballard came back strong in the third, holding North for several minutes and closing the gap to 34-21, but North rebounded and finished the third period strong, shooting for two in the last seconds of the quarter taking their lead to 43-26 at the beginning of the fourth.
The two teams battled it out in the last period as Ballard closed the gap to 12 points, but after taking a time out, North finished strong 58-40, taking them to the next bracket in regionals where they will square off with Paducah Tilghman on Thursday in Graves County.Of North’s third consecutive District title and first round regional win, Coach Blake Cary said of his team, “We have tough kids, they buy in to working hard and work harder than any middle school team that I know. They play hard and they play together – they are unselfish and it shows.”
When asked, “Does this winning streak say something about your coaching style?” Cary humbly replied, “No, I think it says something about our kids.”
Dawson Jolley led North in scoring with 13 points followed by Bryson Jessup with 11, Cole Austin 9, Conner Riley 8, Zach Garland 6, Tristen Prange 5, Trevor Fisk 4 and Dylan Walters 2.
