Lady Marshals take command over Christian County

alyssabarnard2DRAFFENVILLE - Four Lady Marshals were in double figures in the scoring column Tuesday after their 64-48 win over Christian County with Taylor Meadows leading the way with 20 points followed by Alyssa Barnard with 13, Mariah McKenty 12 and Bailey Greer 11.

At the mid-way point in the first quarter, the two teams were tied up 7-7, then three's by McKenty and Christian County's Annia Williams tied the game again at 10-10. Meadows added five straight points for a five point Lady Marshal lead that was cut to two following a Lady Marshal turnover thattaylormeadows3 resulted in a field goal at the buzzer for the Lady Colonels, after Marshall tried to run the clock down for the final shot.
Meadows opened the second quarter with a three followed up by another basket that put them back on top by eight points which was followed up by Barnard's second quarter scoring spree of 11 straight points that gave the Lady Marshals a 31-18 lead. Rachel Reed and Toni Fehrenbacher finished the quarter off with three field goals that put the Lady Marshals up by 16 at the halftime break.
Christian County out-scored the Lady Marshals 27 to 25 in the second half but the 16 point halftime deficit was too much to overcome giving the Lady Marshals their 17th win of the season. The Lady Marshals came up with 16 steals and forced 27 Christian County turnovers scoring 23 points as a result of those turnovers.
The girls are currently 5-2 in the region and 2-1 in district play and will play a double-header with the Marshals Friday at Paducah Tilghman with the Lady Marshals tip-off at 6:00. In their first meeting this season at home, the Lady Marshals lost to Tilghman 76-63. The Lady Tornados are currently 14-6 suffering recent losses to Ballard Memorial and Henderson.
