DRAFFENVILLE - Last night's Marshall County game against Lone Oak marked the final meeting between the two teams before Lone Oak merges with Heath and Reidland next season to become the McCracken County Mustangs.
Chase Clark scored 11 of the Marshals 17 first quarter points on his way to 22 for the game, as the Marshals led Lone Oak 17-7 after a three pointer from Lone Oak's Kam Chumbler ended the quarter.
A free throw from Clark at 5:20 gave the Marshals their first point of the second quarter as neither team got into double-digits, each with nine second quarter points that gave the Marshals a 26-16 halftime lead.
Landon Taylor's three pointer at the end of the third quarter gave the Marshals a 12 point 39-27 lead that Lone Oak cut to five with one minute remaining in the game. A two-handed dunk from Austin Rentfrow put the Marshals lead back to seven. Lone Oak's Sean Murphy added a three for the Flash in the closing seconds as the Marshals pulled out the 52-45 win.
Clark led the scoring with 22 points and pulled in 10 rebounds while Rentfrow also recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
With the win over Lone Oak, the Marshals extended their record to 14-4 while Lone Oak falls to 8-12.
This weekend the Marshals and Lady Marshals will host the annual Gunner's Magic Train Classic tipping off at 5:30 Friday with the girl's from McLean County playing Cairo, IL. The 7:00 game will be the Lady Marshals taking on Henderson followed by the Marshals and Cairo, IL in the final game of the night. Saturday's games begin at 3:30 when Lone Oak plays Warren Central, at 4:30 the Lady Marshals will play Central Hardin and at 6:00 the Marshals will take on Central Hardin.
