Marshals, Lady Marshals beat Carlisle, girls lose in overtime to Massac

Photo- Keith SteeleBARDWELL - Marshall County and Carlisle County squared off Tuesday in a double-header at Comet Stadium. The Lady Marshals cruised to a 59-19 win over the Lady Comets but the boy's game was a battle from beginning to end with the Marshals picking up the 64-57 win over the Comets.


Carlisle took a 15-11 lead after the first quarter with the Marshals taking a 28-25 edge into the locker room at halftime. The game saw many ties and lead changes as Carlisle went up again over the Marshals with a four point lead going into the fourth quarter.
The Marshals out-scored the Comets 24-13 in the final quarter shooting nearly 75 percent from the free throw line to pull out the seven point victory extending their record to 5-1 in the early season.

Holding the Lady Comets to single digits each quarter, the Lady Marshals had 11 players in the scoring column in their 59-19 win. The first quarter ended on an 11-1 Lady Marshal lead and at the half, the lead over the Lady Comets stretched out to 31-7. The Lady Marshals had a battle in Metropolis on Monday, going into overtime against Massac County, falling to the Lady Patriots 47-45. Marshall County's biggest lead of the game came in the second quarter when they went up by 10 over Massac which was chipped away to a three point 31-28 lead after a basket at the buzzer by Emily Hoard.
Alyssa Barnard scored the first four points of the second half for the Lady Marshals, adding just one more bucket to the score board from Alex Brown for a one point lead going into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Marshals held a slight lead until Massac tied the game at 41 with one minute left. Two three point attempts by Bailey Greer and Taylor Meadows missed the mark as the game ended in regulation still tied at 41.
Greer scored the first points of the overtime period for a 43-41 Lady Marshall lead which was tied up by Massac's Kaylee Childers with free throws. A free throw from Barnard gave the Lady Marshals a one point lead with 1:35 left in overtime. Massac's Gracyn 
McBride hit a clutch three point shot with 13 seconds remaining giving the Lady Patriots a 47-45 victory.
