"If I could have chosen the school I wanted to play softball for it would have been the University of Kentucky", Ray said. She has attended four camps there since the age of 10 and said she knew then that's where she wanted to play. UK has had their eye on Ray for a while, getting a verbal commitment from her as a sophomore.
"I am so proud of her and what she stands for in representing Marshall County as a student and not just as a softball player", former Lady Marshals Head Coach Patricia Greer said. "Breanne will represent Marshall County very well at the University of Kentucky".
Ray plays third base for the Lady Marshals and plans to be in the outfield at UK. She will begin her senior season with the Lady Marshals this spring under new Head Coach Kara Hamby who said, "One of the great things about Buzz is that she still has another season with the Lady Marshals to add to her already impressive stats".
Ray has been selected to the All Region team her freshman, sophomore and junior years and was a participant in the 2012 Kentucky East-West All-Star game as a junior. She currently holds a career .484 batting average with a career .751 slugging percentage. She played on the travel softball team, Illinois Southern Force, that finished in the top five in the nation in 2010 and 2011.
Ray is an excellent student with a current GPA of 4.13 ranking ninth in her class out of 325 students and plans to major in the medical field at the University of Kentucky. She is a member of the Beta Club and National Honor Society and is on the Yearbook Staff.
