Northcutt handles state meet improving six places from 2011

Rachel Northcutt ran in her second straight state meet Saturday in Lexington.LEXINGTON - After finishing 21st at the regional meet in Owensboro, Marshall County High School sophomore Rachel Northcutt, qualified for the second straight year for the  State Cross Country Meet Saturday at the Lexington Horse Park.

Rachel finished the race in 147th place with a time of 22:56.28 improving six spots from her 2011 finish at the state meet.
Assumption's Bailey Davis took first in the girl's 3A race with a time of 18:12.72. Whitney O'Bryan of Daviess County captured second breaking up a top four sweep of Assumption who took first, third and fourth. Taking fifth overall, also from Daviess County was Claire Payne.
Taking the state championship was the team from Assumption and locally Graves County placed 15th.
In the Class 2A girl's race, Paducah Tilghman sophomore Aleja Grant got on the podium as state runner-up in a time of 19:14.91.
Chase Geary of Muhlenburg County took first in the boy's Class 3A race finishing in a time of 15:58.66. First place team honors went to St. Xavier and Graves County placed 17th.
