In Zones 1 and 2 Modern Gun season for deer begins on the second Saturday in November and continues for sixteen (16) consecutive days. This season the dates are November 10-25, 2012. In Zones 3 and 4 Modern Gun season for deer begins on the second Saturday in November andcontinues for ten (10) consecutive days and the dates are November 10-19, 2012.
Bag limits and harvest restrictions apply to all hunters. There is no daily bag limit on deer but shall not exceed season bag limit. Land owners, dependents and tenants are prohibited from taking deer they don't claim and check in as their own.
A hunter must abide by all deer permit use requirements, season dates and equipment and harvest restrictions in effect for the location where they hunt and time when they hunt.

This year's opening day of November 10th is timed to coinside with the onset of the rut, the white-tailed deer's annual mating season.
Last year, 44 different counties in Kentucky have recorded trophy deer and in the past three seasons, trophy deer have been harvested from 81 of Kentucky's 120 counties.
