GILBERTSVILLE - Two Indiana fishermen had a close call Friday evening on Kentucky Lake after waves topped their 20-foot bass boat, breaking the transom.
Marshall County Rescue Squad Chief Curt Curtner reports their boat then begin to fill with water before flipping over and ejecting the two men into the 63 degree lake water.
Both were in the water approximately 30 minutes before one of the victim’s sons passed by on another boat, where he discovered the men clinging to the hull of their watercraft.
The victim’s son phoned for help where members of the Marshall County Rescue Squad and East Marshall Fire Department responded to the scene near Moors Resort.
Curtner reports the victims had been transported to shore where Marshall County EMS provided on scene triage and transported one of the victims to Marshall County Hospital for treatment of hypothermia. The other victim refused treatment at the scene.
Curtner said squad members towed the vessel to the shore on the LBL side, removing it from the water. Both men were wearing life vests at the time of the incident.
