17th Annual Hoopfest tips off Friday

E-mail Print PDF
altDRAFFENVILLE - All eyes will be on Marshall County November 30-December 1, as Reed Conder Gymnasium, known as one of the premiere high school basketball venues in the country, will host Hoopfest 2012 featuring the nation's top high school basketball players.
"This year's Hoopfest is the best group of teams we've assembled", Special Event Coordinator Dan Hudson said.

The 2012 Hoopfest will feature the Harrison twins, Aaron and Andrew, two of the top recruits in the nation who recently committed to play for Coach Cal and the Kentucky Wildcats. The twins will be here with the rest of the Fort Bend Travis Tigers from Richmond, Texas playing two games in the Hoopfest, Friday against Louisville Ballard in the 10:00 game and Saturday at 6:00 against Madison Central from Richmond, Kentucky.
The number one prospect according to many media outlets is Andrew Wiggins with the class of 2014. Wiggins and the Huntington Prep team out of West Virginia will also be featured in two games starting Friday against Memphis East and the #23 Rivals ranked player Nick King, and Saturday's 9:00 game versus Briarcrest Christian from Eads, Tennessee.
Hoopfest favorite Oak Hill Academy, will play Friday against Curie, Chicago in the 8:30 game and will face the number five junior prospect in the nation in Cliff Alexander. OakAaron and Andrew Harrison Hill will play Saturday at 7:30 against Southwind out of Memphis, Tennessee.
Bullit East's Derek Willis has also made a verbal commitment to Kentucky and will play on Saturday at 2:30 against Hopkinsville.
Other notables at the 2012 Hoopfest are Johnsthan Williams, III and Jajuan Johnson both from Memphis Southwind, Xavier Rathan-Mayes from Huntington Prep and Troy Williams from Oak Hill Academy.
The 5,500 seat Reed Conder Gymnasium as rated by USA Today as one of the top 10 facilities in the country to watch high school basketball with past Hoopfest players including Kevin Durant, Monta Ellis, Carmelo Anthony, Rajon Rondo, Derrick Rose and Tyler Hansbrough, all NBA household names and can boast that two of those players, Durant and Anthony, are gold-medal Olympians.
Andrew Wiggins could be the next NBA great to appear at the Marshall County Hoopfest, though just a junior is a top recruit for the Kentucky Wildcats with a scholarship offer on the table, as well as from numerous other schools.
With Kentucky playing at Notre Dame on November 29th and hosting Baylor on December 1st, UK fans will no doubt flock to Marshall County High School to catch their first glimpse of the Harrison twins who will be in Wildcat blue for the 2013 season.
