Marshall County sweeps team wins at Invitational of the South

Addison Lyles leading out the first leg of the 4 x 800 relay in Saturday’s Invitational of the South. The relay came in first and Lyles went on to take the win later in the meet in the 3200 meters.

Teams representing 25 schools from Kentucky and Tennessee were hosted by Marshall County track and field on Saturday for the annual Invitational of the South. The Lady Marshals and Marshals won the team titles at the end of a windy, chilly day of competition.

The Marshall County girls team recorded six first place finishes. Presley Gallimore took the win in the 400 meters in 59.68 with the only sub one minute finish of the race. Addison Lyles won the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:40.79 and Phoebe Ramsey took the win in shot put with a throw of 32-10.

Three relay teams took first starting with the 4 x 200 with a time of 1:49.63 with Allie Burkeen, Mia McGregor, Izzy Washburn and Presley Gallimore. McGregor and Gallimore joined with Jessica Reed and Charleigh Duncan to win the 4 x 400 relay in 4:19.23. The 4 x 800 also claimed first in 10:36.75 with Addison Lyles, Duncan, Eden Sandlin and Reed.

Kaitlyn McLeod of Rossview High School in Tennessee was queen of the sprints on Saturday taking first in the 100 meters (12.61) and 200 meters (26.16). Reece Settle of Calloway County also recorded two first place finishes in the 800 meters (2:29.60) and 1600 meters (5:35.71).

Murray’s Layla Green ruled the hurdle events, taking first in the 100 meter hurdles (17.09) and the 300 meter hurdles (51.17).

Calloway County’s Olivia Miles won the high jump (5.00), Avery Wells of Caldwell County won long jump (14-07.50) and Calloway’s Emma Marton took first in triple jump (31-07). Kristen DeSantis of Rossview won the pole vault (11-06) and Alana Perkins of Haywood, Tenn. took first in discus (106-10).

The boys’ team took the top spot in five events. Kobey Yates won the 1600 meters in 4:38.36 in a tight race with Paducah Tilghman’s Liam Black. Aiden Dunigan won the triple jump with 41-06 and Deegan Croley’s throw of 52-04.50 took first in shot put by five feet over second place.

The 4 x 800 relay and freshman 4 x 400 relay teams took first. Making up the 4 x 800 team is Isaac Kinsey, Cade Sorrells, Isaac Reynolds and Owen Futrell and they finished with a time of 8:51.70. The freshman 4 x 400 took first with a time of 3:52.98 with team members Alex Abrams, Austin Lyles, Chaz Newman and Owen Futrell.

Zachariah Taylor of Kenwood High School in Tennessee won the 100 meters (11.02) and McCracken County’s James Barragan won the 200 meters (22.57). Marshall County’s Tyler Orlandi finished second in both the 100 and 200 meters. Rossview’s Micah Parker won the 400 meters (50.69) and Guervenson Binfield-Smith of Murray won the 800 meters (2:03.06).

Taking first in the 3200 meter run (11:06.23) was Cayden Cline of Christian County. The hurdle events were won by McCracken County’s Cannon Ford with first in the 110 meter high hurdles (16.17) and Hopkinsville’s Ian Rossario took first in the 300 meter high hurdles (41.47).

The 4 x 100 relay and 4 x 400 relay events were won by the teams from McCracken County. Trashaun Smith from Madisonville-North Hopkins was a double winner in the high jump (6-06) and long jump (21-10.50).

McCracken County’s Caleb Joyce looks to continue his domination in the pole vault (15-00) this spring with a first place finish and Christian County’s Christopher McCarley took first in discus (126-04).
