Christian Fellowship’s Lady Eagles have played three games since their appearance in the CCA Lady Warrior Christmas Tournament, picking up one win over St. Mary 62-35 and falling in two close competitive games to CCA 50-47 and Fulton City 66-57.
Monday at home, the Lady Eagles played a very physical Fulton City team who in their seventh game of the season at CFS, had just two losses to South Fulton, Tenn. and Carlisle County. The Lady Bulldogs are a young team with no seniors and were led by freshman Mia Martin in first quarter scoring to take a 21-18 lead.
Youth also led the Lady Eagles, coming back from 10 points down at 17-7, to trail by just three at the end of the first quarter, led in scoring by eighth grader Gracie Howard and freshman Lillian Burnett. CFS out-scored Fulton City 14-10 in the second quarter behind six points from Howard to take a 32-31 lead at halftime on a final basket by freshman Jayden Jackson.
Fulton City opened the second half on an 8-0 run to go up by seven, the run ending on a basket by Howard. Burnett, Howard and Edie Little combined to pull the Lady Eagles back to within three points at 43-40 but trialed by eight going into the fourth quarter.
Fulton County took their largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter at 63-49, CFS pulling it back to 11 points on a free throw and basket by Jackson, but the Lady Bulldogs continued to find the basket to hold a 10-point lead. A technical on the Fulton City bench sent Burnett to the line, hitting the second of two to cut the lead down to nine points and Howard would finish the game with two more free throws in the nine-point loss.
CFS was led by Howard with 24 points and 10 rebounds and Burnett with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Both were 8/10 from the free throw line. Martin led Fulton City with 20 points and Kyisha Everett with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Despite the size advantage of Fulton City, the Lady Eagles led in rebounds 45-32.
CFS (5-7) will play at St. Mary (0-10) on Thursday before play in the All “A” Classic begins Friday at 4:30 against Fulton County (0-8) in Mayfield.
