In their first season playing flag football, the Marshall County Special Olympics team finished as the 2019 State Champion in the 1A Red Division played at Tates Creek High School in Lexington on Saturday. The team ended the season with a 4-1 record and also earned Regional runner-up in competition played at St. Xavier High School in Louisville on Oct. 13.
The Marshals played two tough, competitive games Saturday to win the title, beating the Hardin County Hotrods 28-24 and winning 32-30 against the Stride program who scored with four seconds remaining to pull to within two in the title game. A great defensive effort from Marshall County knocked down the pass that would have sent the game into overtime.
