Ten automatic state qualifiers, Lady Marshals runner-up at Class AAA Region 1 track meet

The Marshall County girl’s track team finished Class AAA Region 1 runner-up Tuesday in Henderson. The Lady Marshals finished with 97 points, just nine points behind champion Daviess County with 106. The boy’s from Owensboro took the team title with 110 points, Hopkinsville earned runner-up with 80 and the Marshals placed third with 68 points.

The top two finishers in each event from all seven regions automatically qualify for state and the next 10 best results in each event from across the state will fill in the remaining 10 spots for a total of 24. The 2019 KHSAA State Track and Field Championships at the University of Kentucky begin on Thursday, May 30 with Class 1A, Friday Class 2A and Saturday Class 3A.

Three individuals and three relays automatically qualified on the girl’s team. Tori McCracken successfully defended her regional title taking first in the high jump (5-00) and fellow jumper Presleigh Jennings placed second (5-00). Sydney Temple is the third automatic qualifier with a second place finish in pole vault (9-06). Relays heading to state include the first place 4 x 400 relay (Jordyn Reed, Leah Vincek, Tori McCracken, Tori Ford – 4:15.50), the second place 4 x 100 relay (Hannah Perry, Jordyn Reed, Layne Pea, Charley Pursley – 52.68) and the second place 4 x 800 relay (Carmen Gunn, Gabbi Lovett, Tori Ford, Emma Smith  – 10:27.33).

The boy’s team automatically qualified for state in four individual events, two of those by Cade Flatt who took the region title in both the 400 meters (51.28) and the 800 meters (1:58.27). Justin Wilson took second in the triple jump (41-10) and Bryce Ladd second in pole vault (10-06) for the automatic spot at state.

Cade Flatt won region championship gold in both the 400 and 800 meters to advance to the state meet on Saturday, June 1. Flatt also placed third in the high jump.
Tori McCracken (top) won the high jump title at regionals and Presleigh Jennings placed second – both will advance to the state meet. McCracken will defend her Class 3A Region 1 state title from last season.
