Middle school soccer teams win District Championship, take aim at Regional title

girls middle soccerThe Marshall County Middle School girl’s soccer team won the district tournament in Murray Wednesday night after posting a 9-0-1 record for  the regular season.  After two wins in the tournament, their overall record stands at 11-0-1. The team has only been scored on twice in the 12 games.

During the district tournament, the Lady Marshals defeated Murray by a score of 4-0 .  In the finals the team beat Calloway 3-0.  They played St. Mary in the semifinal of the regional tournament at Mike Miller Park on Monday and won 6-0.  The finals of the regional tournament will be at 5:00 on Wednesday, originally scheduled for Tuesday.

The Marshall County Middle School boy’s soccer team won the district tournament in Murray Wednesday against Mayfield in penalty kicks when neither team was able to find the net during regulation or the overtime period.  The team entered the tournament as the 2nd seed behind Mayfield who had handed the Marshals their only loss in a season where their regular season record was 8-1-1.

The boys had been split evenly during the regular season into two teams, each playing 5 games and came together well in the tournament.  The boys started the tournament on Monday with a 10-0 win over Caldwell followed by a 2-0 win against Murray in the semifinals before defeating Mayfield in the finals. The boys played in the regional tournament at Mike Miller Park on Monday in the semifinal against St. Mary winning 4-0.  The Championship game originally scheduled for Tuesday, will now be played on Wednesday at 6:30.
