Wins by Huntington Prep, Oak Hill, Prolific Prep and Sunrise Christian wrap up Hoopfest 2015

BENTON – Jaylan McGill and Deshawn Corprew each dropped in 25 points for Quality Education, NC, but it wasn’t enough to beat Huntington Prep and Miles Bridges (Michigan State) who had 34 points and 10 rebounds in their 94-88 win in the first game of Saturday’s Hoopfest evening session.

Huntington Prep led at every stop, 23-17 after the first quarter and 41-39 at halftime. They out-scored Quality Education 53-49 in the second half to win by six.

Curtis Jones added 22 points for Huntington Prep hitting 13 of 16 attempts at the free throw line.

Oak Hill Academy and Athletic Institute Prep took the floor in the second game of the evening session on Saturday. Oak Hill had no trouble with Athletic Institute winning 74-57 behind 20 points by Mario Kegler (Mississippi State).

Oak Hill has five seniors that have committed along with Kegler including Braxton Key- Alabama, Joe Hamption- Penn State, Khadim Sy- Virginia Tech and Rodney Miller- Miami with four top 100 ranked juniors on their roster.

Thon Maker, who is undecided on which college he will attend, led Athletic Institute with 17 points and 18 rebounds.

Oak Hill’s Harry Giles, who was the #1 ranked player in the nation and is out for the season with an injury, has committed to Duke.

Game 15 of the Hoopfest featured a match-up between Prolific Prep, CA, and API, TX. Prolific Prep jumped out to a 20-13 lead after the first quarter and led 36-28 at halftime, out-scoring API in the second half 34-25 for a 70-53 win.

Pierre Crockrell, Jr. a freshman for Prolific Prep, led the team with 20 points, earning MVP honors, shooting lights-out from three-point range going 6 for 6.

Josh Jackson, a current top ranked senior is undecided with 10 offers including Kentucky but is not leaning towards the Bluegrass State. Prolific Prep players that have made commitments, Devon Daniels to Utah and Vance Jackson, Jr. to UConn.

Two API players have committed including Terrance Forguson to Alabama and Mark Vital to Baylor. API also has two top ten ranked juniors in Trevon Duvall, the #2 ranked and Billy Preston, #6 ranked.

Sunrise Christian, KS, beat Victory Prep, TX 46-38 in the ninth and final game on Saturday. Bryan Trimble led Sunrise Christian with 16 points while Jarred Vanderbilt, the #7 ranked junior from Victory Prep led all scorers with 23 points.

Two players on the Sunrise Christian team have made college commitments including Lindy Waters to Oklahoma State and Kameron McGusty to Oklahoma.

After leading 25-14 at halftime, Sunrise Christian went up by 15 points early in the second half but were out-scored 20-14, holding on to win by eight.
